Microsoft SMTP Phase Out – Switch to Single Sign-on

If you’re a Microsoft user and you’re still using the SMTP authentication for your BPmail settings, it’s time to take action!

What’s changing with Microsoft email?

Microsoft has been gradually phasing out basic SMTP authentication in favour of more secure protocols like OAuth. This change began last year, and Microsoft has confirmed that basic SMTP support will be fully discontinued by September 2025.

If you’re a Microsoft Business (Office 365) user and are still using basic SMTP settings to send emails through BPmail, you’ll likely start seeing reliability issues in the coming months, and eventually, it’ll stop working altogether. For more details, click here to get the technical lowdown.

To keep your business running smoothly and efficiently, we recommend that all Microsoft Business users move away from SMTP settings as soon as possible and start to use our Single Sign-on (SSO) feature instead.

How does this change affect your Business Pilot account?

If you’re using your Microsoft email address to send emails through Business Pilot, and you’re still connected via SMTP, it’s time to upgrade your setup.

We’ve already made this easy for you with Single Sign-On (SSO).

Our Microsoft SSO feature allows you to securely link your Business Pilot account directly to your Microsoft Business (Office 365) account – no passwords to remember, no manual server settings, and no more risk of sending issues caused by outdated email protocols.

The only thing to remember is that in order to log-in to Business Pilot using your Microsoft account, your Microsoft email address must be an exact match to the email address you currently use to sign-in to Business Pilot.

Here’s why it makes sense to switch now:

  • Fully compatible with Microsoft’s latest email security standards.
  • No SMTP configuration required – it’s all managed in the background.
  • More secure, using OAuth to keep your emails flowing safely.
  • Future proof – once SMTP support is removed completely, you’ll already be covered.

How to make the switch...

Making the switch to using SSO is quick and straightforward. You can be set-up in just a few clicks!
